Project name: Novel Detector Concept for Medical Gamma Probe

Project acronym: DETMED

Call: HORIZON-MSCA-2022-SE-01

Number: 101129879

Starting/Ending date: 01 October, 2023- 30 September, 2027

Budget: € 1,651,400.00

Project Summary

The project goal is to contribute to the development of highly requested in medical equipment market the advance medical gamma probes for radio guided surgeries via using developed high-sensitivity semiconductor Photodetectors with unique structure, followed by elaboration of the working Prototype of gamma probe of a wide energy detection band at TRL 4 [prototype, validated / tested in a laboratory environment] suitable for elaboration of next generation of the detection of radioactively labelled tissue during preoperative and intraoperative preparation for radiological diagnosis and surgery. This goal will be achieved by means of cooperation between Academy and SMEs of EU Beneficiaries and Associated Partners via collaboration of the researchers, engineers & manufacturers aiming at: transfer of competences and skills in the development of high-tech gamma probe; conversion of innovative idea into product; setting up joint scientific experiments and measurements of innovative ideas; (iv) dissemination of the results of exchange activities; international exposure leading to extended networks and opportunities. On the other hand, the involved parties are eager to promote innovation in this area following the provisions of the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community which seek to strengthen the scientific and technological basis of Community industry and encourage it to become more competitive at the international level. The joint R&I activities, exploiting complementary competences of the project’s academic and non-academic Partners, are aimed at design, developments, testing and validation of the medical gamma probes for new generation of medical gamma probe technology manufacture for the nuclear medicine, first of all to the project’s SME Partner and, thereafter, via project communication/dissemination activities to deliver the project results to the broader industrial community.
